Akshay Kumar's character Pakshi Rajan the bird lover has become a rage after the release of '2.0' garnering all round praises for his intention to save birds from extinction due to the radiation effects of cellphone towers. Director Shankar has taken inspiration for Akshay's character from Salim Ali fondly known as The Birdman of India.
Salim Ali (12 November 1896 – 20 June 1987) was a naturalist and ornithologist who spent a lifetime in conducting surveys and pressed for the need to preserve birds. He wrote more several books on birds and was instrumental in the setting up of many bird sanctuaries with some of them named after him. Ali has been conferred with the Padma Bhushan in 1958 and the Padma Vibhushan in 1978.
