Akshay Kumar’s most ambitious film so far ‘Blue’ has recorded a fantastic opening all over; be it multiplexes in metros or small single screen in C centres. A multiplex source said, “Even the morning shows starting 7am onwards which go relatively empty during new releases are houseful all over India. In fact its first day business itself has turned out to be better than few movies combined.” Adds the source, “Irrespective of what critics have to say about his films Akshay Kumar always draws in crowds. Reviews don’t make a movie box office numbers do.”

Akshay is selling like hot cakes overseas as well. “Akshay is being touted as the overseas king. His film Blue has garnered a phenomenal response from overseas markets. Dubai, US, UK, Fiji Islands, Thailand have opened to packed houses,” said a trade analyst.

In a period of five years Akshay Kumar’s films have generated a whopping 1000 crores. Right from ‘Welcome’ (2004) to ‘Blue’ (2009) Akshay Kumar’s films have netted huge profits clearly indicating that he is definitely the box office king. Fascinatingly, Akshay is the only star to have had the maximum number of releases in the 5 years, most of which have been hits.

Another trade analyst said, “Most of Akshay’s releases are hits and almost always open with a good collection at the box office. This clearly indicates that when it comes to box office success Akshay is the most dependable.” The analyst confirms, “Akshay is definitely No.1 today. Directors are still queuing up to sign him. His films spell profits immaterial of its content. Any film starring Akshay Kumar in the lead is already half sold to the audience.”

And ‘Blue’ is no exception to this. Taran Adarsh acclaimed Bollywood critic quotes, “On the whole, Blue has style as well as substance. The film has everything going in its favour, right from its incredible star cast to the superb action scenes to the hitherto unseen marine life to the tremendous hype and hoopla. At the box-office, Blue will strike like a hurricane. It should set new benchmarks in days to come. This is also among Akshay Kumar’s finest performances.
