A veteran actor of over sixty years in stage, cinema and television poverty stricken Akki Channabasappa passed away on 15th of May in Bengaluru.
With no one to conduct the funeral, the Kannada Chalanachitra Poshaka Kalavidaru is conducting the final rites of the aged actor.
86 years aged Akki Channabasappa was alone after his wife death 45 years ago. He lived on penury and only chance to act was his livelihood. He has acted in over 100 films staged thousands of plays from August 15, 1947.
At 20 he joined Ballari Lalithamma Drama Company and switched to the company of Honnappa Bhagavathar. Akki Channabasappa learnt dance from Minuguthare Kalpana. Ranga Geethe, comedy roles came looking for him. He came and joined Gubbi Company in 1970.
