For the remake followers the senior director with good track record S.Mahender has given an answer. From the 'desi' folk song 'Punyakoti' (the wild tiger and innocent honest cow tale in the song Dharani Mandala Madhyadholage..) director S.Mahender has touched with a caption 'Sathyave Namma Thayi Thande' (Truth is nothing but parents). For the present genre director has injected the right things at an appropriate time and it is a well measure film. The performance especially Shruthi and Kishore reach the heights. Both deserve awards and so is director S.Mahender for giving a neat and tidy film that touches the hearts of villagers mainly.
Akka Naagi (Shruthi) sacrifice everything in her life for Thangi Cauvery right from the childhood. The only intention of Naagi is that her sister should become a doctor and come to village to serve the poor people and the deceased people should not die like her mother. For bringing up Cauvery the intense sacrifice Naagi makes is very interesting. She postpones her marriage for five years. In the village Naagi is also known for her straightforward approach and nothing wrong takes places in front of her eyes.
The chicken hearted Cauvery on the way to announce that she has passed out in first rank in her II PUC examination witness a cruel murder made by Huliyappa of her village and falls unconscious. She is mentally depressed. The doctor detects it as a blood clot in the brain that requires Rs.2 lakh for the operation. The entire village people come to the rescue of Naagi to collect Rs.2 lakhs but this money is snatched by thieves in big bad city.
In no way out Naagi comes to get the loan of Rs.2 lakhs from very tough Huliyappa of her village. In exchange of money Huliyappa asks Naagi to marry him. Naagi giving up her love for Shivulinga (Mohan) makes firm mind and takes Rs.2 lakh for the operation of her sister Cauvery.
When Huliyappa fix a date of marriage it is hullabaloo in the entire village. No one is interested in Naagi marrying the cruel Huliyappa but Naagi has made up her mind. The only reason she says is that she has agreed for the match with Huliyappa at the time of taking Rs.2 lakhs.
It is at this stage Naagi symbolizes the honest cow and Huliyappa the wild tiger. Like how the cow returns to offer itself as flesh to tiger here in 'Akka Thangi' Naagi returns to cruel Huliyappa. The villagers go behind Naagi and protest. In the melee Huliyappa is tortured yet Naagi wants to marry him. Huliyappa looking at Naagi says in honesty there is so much of worth I would not have become cruel person. Huliyappa changes his entire outlook and becomes a good man in front of honest Naagi. In the 'Punyakoti' song the cruel tiger on the return of honest cow falls from a hill and ends life respecting the honesty. This is the song taught in schools for every child in Karnataka that is a standing example of honesty and truthfulness.
Actress Shruthi has very good dimension to portray. She is a fighter throughout. She fights for the good and honesty is the notable factor. At places holding knife she reminds the female version of action hero Darshan. The dialogue of 'Jutti Kattidare Nagi Juttu Bichchidre Jogi' takes applaud in the theatre. Rashmi falls behind in her performance. Kishore is sure to win awards for his cool and cruelty at places in his performance. He is the right choice. Mohan in the song Badavanadare Enu Priye..with Shruthi is very good. He is lively throughout in comedy filled role with Sharan doing a nice job. Biradar the comedy actor is silenced here but he gives very good emotions.
The song of poet Satyananda Patrothata Badavanadare Enu Priye Kai Thuttu Thinisuve..is the best among all scored by music director V.Manohar. Cinematography by Suresh Babu is apt.
This is a film for all the family members. It is not just a sacrifice saga but something more than that - Honesty wins.
Scoring 7.5/10
