The word 'Thunivu' meaning courage or colloquially gutsy is the number one trending topic across social media platforms thanks to it being announced as the title of Ajith Kumar's 61st movie. The film marks the mass hero's third consecutive collaboration with director H. Vinoth and producer Boney Kapoor after the money spinners 'Nerkonda Paarvai' and 'Valimai'.

It is already a known fact that 'Thunivu' is based on a bank heist and grand sets of the Mount Road area in Chennai with the Your Bank building figuring prominently in it. Now news as broken out that director H. Vinoth wrote the story inspired by the famous 1987 bank robbery in Punjab.

On February 13th 1987, Khalistan Separatist, Harjinder Singh Jinda along with 12 to 15 other armed Sikhs dressed as cops stormed into the Punjab National Bank, Miller Gunj branch, in Ludhiana. They took off with around rupees five crores and seventy lakhs (4.5 million dollars) a huge amount at that time.

The highlight of what is still the biggest ever bank heist in Indian history is that no one lost their lives on either sides. The planning and execution was so good that the police called it a "A neat and clean operation'". However there is no official word if the movie is based on this event or it served as an inspiration for 'Thunivu'.

'Thunivu' has music by Ghibran and cinematography by Nirav Shah with Vijay Velukutty handling the edits. Mollywood lady superstar Manju Warrier plays the female lead opposite Ajith while Samuthirakani, Mahanadhi Shankar, G.M. Kumar, Bhagavathy Perumal and others costar. The film is currently in its final schedule of shooting in Bangkok and will hit the screens worldwide later this year or early next.
