Every time elections happening in Chennai Thala Ajith will cast his vote without fail and he will make it a point to wait in the queue for his turn and has always avoided using special privileges accorded for stars in the polling booths (this time such privileges have been ruled out). Ajith, a strong believer of democracy has always followed this habit and he will wait in the queue for his turn even in Airports.
The ardent fans of Thala will make it a point to get the photos of Ajith waiting in voters' queue to perform his democratic duty and make it viral in social media. Even during normal times we could see such photos being shared by the actor's fans to remind people that their matinee idol is always a simple and down to earth citizen of the country despite being a much respected star. This will evoke negative reactions from fans of Vijay who would criticize this as an attempt to seek publicity.
But for the Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections 2016 held on May 16, Ajith followed a different pattern to cast his vote. He did not wait in queue. He came early in the morning at 7 am when the polling started and did not have to wait in queue as he was one of the first voters to visit the polling booth at a Corporation school at Thiruvanmiyur.
He came along with his wife Shalini. The Star couple followed the procedures and cast their votes. Ajith kept smiling at the media photographers and videographers who captured every moment of his stay at the polling booth. He even posed for the photograph by lifting his finger which had the black ink mark for having voted in the election. Amid such a huge media rush he did not forget to thank the Booth agents and also the security personnel before leaving.
Another notable change in Ajith is that he had come in a casual attire. The star was wearing a black t-shirt. It is a rare sight as Ajith is always spotted wearing formal attire in public places. Also the black ink mark for having voted in the election was placed in his middle finger instead of index finger by the booth agent. While showing it to the media photographers Ajith showed all the four fingers as showing the middle finger to someone is considered offensive.
People are praising Ajith for upholding decency and civility by this gesture.
