Ajith and Vijay who found their footing and rose to the top of Kollywood at about the same time three decades ago. Though they are friends in real life their rivalry on screen is unmistakable and their fans wars are one of the most fiercely fought in the world after the social media evolution.

Ajith and Vijay movies have clashed head to head several times and it looks like they are going to lock horns once again on Pongal 2023. Thalapathy Vijay's 'Varisu' directed by Vamshi Paidipally was announced as a Pongal release almost at the time the film went on floors. On the other hand Ajith's 'AK 61' directed by H. Vinoth was planned for a Diwali 2022 release. However due to unforseen circumstances including the coronavirus pandemic things did not go as planned and now sources say that the mid January slot next is being eyed by the team.

Ajith and Vijay have clashed at the Pongal box office four times in the past namely 'Friends vs 'Dheena' (2002), 'Anjaneya' vs 'Thirumalai' (2003), 'Pokkiri' vs 'Aalwar' (2007) and 'Veeram' vs 'Jilla' (2014). We will have to wait once again to see if this clash of the titans will happen for and if does then not only the box office but the internet too will be on fire with the biggest fan war in history.
