2003 was a watershed year for Ajay Devgn when he appeared in a hat trick of action films - 'Qayamat', 'Gangaajal' and 'Zameen'. Ever since then he has worked in a few dramatic outings like 'Khakee', 'Apaharan' and 'Aakrosh' to name a few but hardcore action was certainly missing from his repertoire. Now that he has returned with his 'Zameen' director Rohit Shetty in 'Singham', Ajay is happy to be revisiting that genre all over again which made him the superstar that he is today.

"It was Rohit who had seen the Tamil version of 'Singham' and wanted to make it for Hindi. When he came with the film's script to me, I was very happy with it. In any case it had been eight long years since I did a hardcore action film. Rohit said that he wanted me to be in his version of 'Singham' and I was game for it", says Ajay.

Rohit had actually hit upon this idea when he was filming 'Golmaal 3'. It was during a casual conversation on the sets of the film when he brought up the film's idea with Ajay. The actor hadn't seen the original but he felt that the film had in it to be adapted for all- India sensibilities as well. Since Rohit had earlier made quite a few comedies with Ajay, namely 'Golmaal' series, 'All The Best' & 'Sunday' and would soon be beginning work on 'Bol Bachchan', it was always on the cards that the duo would return with an action flick soon.

"We have always gone by whatever has come our way", says Rohit, "We never thought ki chalo yeh banaate hain ya phir woh try karte hai. Whenever a good script has come our way, we have picked it up. 'Singham' was one such film."
