Both the actor and the prolific filmmaker have given some great moments to Indian cinema with films like Gangajal and Aparahan, well Dil Kya Kare was a terrible mistake. Strangely, Ajay who has a marvelous rapport with director Prakash Jha is miffed with the marketing people and the director for ignoring him in the films promotional events. Ajay features in a very vital role in the film which draws its inspiration from Karna's character in Mahabharata. Ajay plays Suraj Kumar, a morally strong, principled and upright leader of the Dalits yet represents the wrong people (Manoj Bajpai and Ranbir Kapoor) as they had helped him when he was humiliated by Nana Patekar and his political party because of his low caste.
Ajay feels that he has been sidelined and the movie is being promoted as a Katrina, Ranbir film where they are shown as lovers.
Ajay has been mysteriously absence from the films promotional events, in fact in Mumbai and Delhi Ajay was missing from the press conference.
Ajay is said to have expressed his displeasure to Prakash Jha through his assistant and asked why the film is being promoted as Katrina-Ranbir love story.
Jha on the other hand is shocked and he says, "I would like to check with Ajay before saying anything. Why should he be unhappy with the promos? The music people are doing the promos and they wanted to show the romantic angle. Since the romance is only between Ranbir and Katrina, the promos are showing that.
