Ajay Devgan has been working tirelessly on his upcoming sports drama 'Maidaan'. The production has encountered quite a few hurdles till now. However, 'Maidaan' remains one of the most anticipated projects currently in development. Recently, director Amit Sharma talked about Ajay Devgan's character in the movie. Ajay is going to play the role of legendary football coach, Syed Abdul Rahim.
Amit said, "Ajay sir prepared for the part from scratch, from the football to the Hyderabadi accent... everything was researched by him. He is no stranger to real-life characters. To play Syed Abdul Rahim, Ajay worked on his body and spoken language. He has not compromised on credibility and authenticity for even one shot."
A drawback of casting popular star in a film is that audience can't look past the stardom. Amit believes that this won't be the case with Ajay Devgan in 'Maidaan'. He said, "Audiences won't see Ajay Devgn the star in Maidaan. They will see this football coach who changed the destiny of the football game in our country. Ajay sir will be seen playing real football with real players in Maidaan."
Ajay is no stranger to playing real life heroes on screen. He has previously starred as Bhagat Singh, Dawood Ibrahim and Tanhaji in past.
