Ajay Devgan's upcoming sports drama 'Maidaan' has been in development for quite a while now. The production faced multiple roadblocks but the film finally has a release date now. It is going to hit the screens on June 3, 2022. 'Maidaan' will explore the golden era in Indian football history and in this tale inspired by real events, Ajay will essay the role of Syed Abdul Rahim who was one of the greatest coaches that game has ever seen.

Ajay's recent tweet about the film read, "Maidaan, A story that will resonate with every Indian, a film that I feel very strongly about. Mark the date on your calendar. Releasing worldwide on 3rd June, 2022." Given the subject matter, it is safe to assume that 'Maidaan' is going to have an inspiring and patriotic theme. It will be set between the years 1952 and 1962 when Indian football was at its peak.

The production of film was halted multiple times due to two waves of pandemic and a natural catastrophe which destroyed the sets. However, the team is back on feet now and remaining portions will be shot soon.
