With the rise of OTT platforms in last few years, the Hindi entertainment industry has gravitated towards realistic stories and grounded characters. However, talking about the big screen, its the larger than life and hero centric films which appeal the audience and make more money. Success of recently released films like 'KGF: Chapter 2', 'Pushpa' and 'RRR' further prove that statement.
During a recent interview with ETimes, Ajay Devgan shared that South Indian filmmakers know how to make perfect larger than life characters and that's the kind of cinema which appeals to the masses. He stated, "Larger than life always works with cinema. The common man always connects more with a character that has similar, humble origins as him, but he behaves in a larger-than-life manner. That creates a strong connection with the audience."
Extrapolating his point further, Ajay said, "Look at films from the 70s, 80s and 90s. All the superhit movies and in fact, look at Mr Bachchan’s career, he became what he became thanks to all those films with a larger-than-life hero. When I did Singham, it connected with kids and women. I was honestly surprised, I didn’t think Singham would connect with kids and women, yet when the first film released, a lot of women came up to us and told us they wanted their men to be like Singham. That connection has always been there."
