Since last few days, Ajay Devgan is super busy with the promotions of his war film 'Bhuj: The Pride of India'. The film was designed for a theatrical release but due to the conditions, it is being released on the streaming platform Disney+ Hotstar. During an promotional event for the film, Ajay talked about how OTT and cinema can coexist in future.
He said, “There will be a good balance between both. It’s like having food. 7 days a week you can’t go have food outside, but after 4 days ghar pe toh khana banega hi phir aap restaurant kyu jateho ya mangate kyu ho. Aap ne 3-4 din OTT pe dhekha phir once a week or twice a week you need to go out and have a big screen experience. It’s like that.”
When asked whether the digital release have taken away the opportunity to score big box office numbers, Ajay said, “Not really. I would not say that (it affected business). Given the situation and the scenario I think it’s a great thing (that films are releasing digitally). When you make a film you want people to see it, you want maximum people to see. And OTT is a good platform. I’m not saying that all the films should release here, but I think it will be a good balance for the future."
The actor concluded by saying, "I think theatres are going to make a comeback in a big way and then there will be a balance because we are releasing 150-200 every year and people are only fighting (for a release date.) People made their films, there are no theatres available because there are 3-3 films releasing on the same day. So it will be nice balance whether to go on OTT or you go theatrically – as long as people are watching it.”
