Recently in the news for protesting to being called "Jaya Amitabh Bachchan," Jaya Bachchan is the Rajya Sabha member. Amid this, an old video of Aishwarya Rai, her daughter-in-law, came back up the internet. Aishwarya is seen in the clip responding with astonishment when a journalist addresses her "Aishwarya Rai Bachchan."

The video opens with a journalist introducing Aishwarya Rai under "Rai Bachchan," her surname. Aishwarya answers, "Ohoo; that title is my god! Just consistent Aishwarya, the way you have known me. When questioned whether "Rai Bachchan" is her official surname, she responds, "Aishwarya Rai as it has been professionally known, who got married to Abhishek Bachchan." This footage surfaced soon after Jaya Bachchan attracted notice in the Rajya Sabha. Emphasizing that her identity is different from her husband's name, she objected to Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh calling her "Shrimati Jaya Amitabh Bachchan." Her official paperwork, Singh noted, show her as "Jaya Amitabh Bachchan." Jaya gently addressed the subject in Parliament a few days later, but the problem returned when Chairperson Jagdeep Dhankhar repeated the term, which set Jaya objecting once again.

Jaya said the vice president advised she change her election certificate. She said, "No, sir. I really feel proud. I am rather pleased of my name and that of my husband and his successes.
