Director Maniratnam had last directed the multistarrer Chekka Chivantha Vaanam and the movie which was a gangster - police action drama was a blockbuster. Following the success of the movie, the director is all set to revive his dream project, the multistarrer Ponniyin Selvan.

There have been various rumours around the movie which is the on screen adaptation of Kalki Krishnamurthy's epic novel, and it was said that this movie will feature Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Chiyaan Vikram, Keerthy Suresh, Aishwarya Rai and many others, though no official information has been revealed.

However, now actress Aishwarya Rai has made a revelation on being a part of the magnum opus during her appearance in the Cannes Film festival. She said that she's a part of Maniratnam's next, and that she is humbled and excited to work with him. It has been said that she will be playing the mysterious and power crazy Nandini in the movie.
