AIADMK's Rajya Sabha M.P. Navaneethakrishnan has stated that the party MPs would contemplate committing 'mass suicide' if the Centre doesn't set up a Cauvery Management Board as per Supreme Court's directions.
Speaking in Rajya Sabha yesterday, Navaneethakrishnan became emotional when he touched the topic of the Cauvery Management Board. "We (MPs) have been asked several times if we were ready to quit our posts; we are even ready to quit our lives (by committing suicide) if it would guarantee the setting up of a Cauvery Management Board.
"What would anyone be able to do if the Centre doesn't pay heed to the directions of the Supreme Court of India?" Navaneethakrishnan asked. Meanwhile, reacting to his remarks, AIADMK's Trichy Lok Sabha M.P. Kumar said that it was (threat to commit suicide) the former's own viewpoint and wasn't the party's stance. "He sure got emotional even as we have been fighting for the (setting up of the) Board both within and outside the Parliament," Kumar added.
Reacting to Navaneethakrishnan's speech, BJP's Tamil Nadu Unit president Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan took a dig at the ruling AIADMK by stating that they won't even quit their posts of MPs and added that the possibility of them committing was ruled out for sure.
