Senior AIADMK leader and Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker Thambithurai has opined that there won’t be any advantage in AIADMK MPs choosing to resign en masse as such a move would hardly help in resolving the Cauvery water row with Karnataka.
Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha AIADMK MPs staged a protest demonstration inside the Parliament complex on Tuesday morning. They shouted slogans demanded setting up of the Cauvery Management Board by the Centre within the time-frame as stipulated by the Supreme Court in its verdict delivered a few weeks back.
Thambithurai, who headed the protest, expressed his disapproval at the idea put forth in certain quarters which said that the AIADMK MPs would do well to resign en masse to put pressure on the Centre to set up the Cauvery Management Board. “It would serve no purpose at all,” he said and added that people had chosen the MPs to serve them and that the MPs would serve out their entire term in people’s service.
He also pointed out that the DMK did nothing beneficial to the State when it had quite a few Ministers in the Union Cabinet during the UPA regime from 2004-14. “We have decided to stall the proceedings in Parliament till justice is meted out to Tamil Nadu with regard to setting up the Cauvery Management Board,” Thambithurai said.
