AIADMK's ex-councillor Jayagopal, whose illegal hoarding set up was responsible for the tragic death of Subhasri, has finally been arrested from a hideout in Krishnagiri, 14 days after the death of the girl. He is currently being brought to Chennai and will be produced in a court soon.
The 23-year-old techie, Subhasri Ravi, was killed in an accident on the 200-feet Radial stretch along the Thuraipakkam- Pallavaram road after an illegal AIADMK hoarding fell on her, causing her to lose balance and fall down. She was then run over by a tanker lorry that came behind her.
The incident happened at around 2 pm on September 12 when Subhari was returning home after taking an exam when the illegal banner erected by the AIADMK leader, Jayagopal, for a wedding in his family, fell on her. The life-size hoarding had pictures of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister E Palanisamy, his deputy O Panneerselvam and former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa.
Two cases were earlier registered against Jayagopal after a complaint was filed by an assistant engineer of the Chennai corporation under Section 3 of The Tamil Nadu Open Places (Prevention of Disfigurement) Act, 1959, for installing the hoarding without permission and Section 326 of the Indian Penal Code (causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means).
