In 2017, a Special Investigation Team headed by Akun Sabharwal probed several Telugu film industry celebs regarding their alleged involvement in drug abuse. Nobody was found guilty. Most recently, starlet and BJP leader Madhavi Latha accused Tollywood of tolerating rampant drug abuse. If Kangana Ranaut is to be believed, drug cartels have had their sway in the Hindi film industry as well.
Be that as it may, the spotlight is now on the Kannada film industry. Following a raid in Mumbai in mid-August, Sandalwood has been suspected by Central Crime Branch to be a facilitator and beneficiary of a drug racket in Bengaluru. Notably, the son of a Communist leader, too, has been alleged to have links.
On Thursday, Kannada starlet Ragini Dwivedi has been summoned by CCB for questioning.
A day earlier, the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce declared that strict action will be taken against actors who are proven guilty of drug abuse. If any member of the body is found to have links with the drug racket, he or she won't find work in the industry.
