After 'Sarkaru Vaari Paata', 'Bheemla Nayak' does it!

Usually, teasers for superstar movies are supposed to pack at least one punchline. This has been the done-to-death tradition in Telugu and Tamil cinema at least. The punchy monologue is invariably delivered in Telugu by Tollywood superstars like Chiranjeevi, Balakrishna, Pawan Kalyan, Jr NTR and Mahesh Babu.
For a change, two big-ticket movies have subverted this rule all of a sudden. On August 9, when the teaser for 'Sarkaru Vaari Paata' came out, it was somewhat unsettling to watch Mahesh Babu deliver English-language punchlines. "If tiger dates a rabbit, how it will be? Same! If you miss the interest, you will get your date," the superstar says in the now-viral 'blaster'.
In the teaser for 'Bheemla Nayak', Pawan Kalyan gets us rooting for his heroism without delivering a proper punchline: 'Rey Daniel baytiki raaa naa kodaka', he thunders. This is mass-y enough and the teaser would have made a spectacular impact even if the next line hadn't followed: 'Enti choostunnav. Kinda caption ledana? Akkarledu.. bandekku'.
In the 'Bheemla Nayak' glimpse video, the first line is a mere scream but since Power Star is the one delivering it, it has acquired the aura of a proper punchline. In 'SVP', the otherwise normal line delivered in an alien language has acquired the appeal of a punchline.
In two different ways, the teasers for 'SVP' and 'Bheemla Nayak' have made an attempt to redefine the tradition of punchlines in Telugu cinema.
