Though cricket is supposed to be the most popular game in India but it seems Bollywood is more fascinated with boxing, a game that highlights machismo!
Remember in the past macho star like Dara Singh playing a boxer in the movie BOXER (1965), Amitabh Bachchan in NASEEB (1981), Dharmendra in MAIN INTEQUAM LOONGA (1982), Mithun Chakraborty in BOXER (1984) Sunny Deol in GHAYAL (1990), Aamir Khan in GULAM (1998) etc.
The trend has continued even today. According to latest news brilliant actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui is all set to play of a boxer in his forthcoming film being directed by Sujoy Ghosh, which is based on the book The Devotion Of Suspect X. According to reports Nawazuddin Siddiqui will be pitted against Saif Ali Khan.
To get into the skin of the character Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who is quite thin, has, began enhancing his body and muscles under the supervision of a physical trainer at his personal gym. In addition to building his physique he is also learning boxing and kickboxing techniques to give authenticity to his character, which is his forte.
Readers may recall that the trend of boxing has picked up in Bollywood thanks to the success of Priyanka Chopra starrer in MARY KOM.
Others actors who will be seen playing boxers in upcoming movies include Ranbir Kapoor, playing a street fighter in BOMBAY VELVET, Akshay Kumar and Sidharth Malhotra playing boxers in BROTHERS and Salman Khan in Ali Abbas Zafar`s SULTAN.
In fact even actor-producer John Abraham had planned a remake of Sylvester Stallone Hollywood hit ROCKY with former world champion David Haye, with whom he has collaborated for a flagship fitness-cum-boxing centre too.
