Bollywood is known for remaking South Films since decades and now the latest news is that Bollywood has decided to adopt its marketing policy too.
In a closed door meeting held at eminent film maker Karan Johar`s office in Mumbai the bigwigs of Bollywood got-together to discuss means and ways to control excessive money spent on marketing of the film and bring an end to the star system autocracy.
It may be noted that down South there is a strong unity among the filmmakers and every filmmaker is allowed to spend a specific amount on the film`s publicity. The system is so homogeneous that it does not discriminate between a Rajinikanth film and a new actor. No filmmaker can exceed the specified limit for publicity. As a result due to less expenditure on a film`s publicity the revenue earned is more.
In addition to South Film Industry`s marketing mantra, a film producer also did a review of publicity adopted in New Delhi and Mumbai. A close observation between the marketing techniques adopted by these two cities revealed that there was marginal difference in the earning of the two cities. Mumbai collected little more but then Delhi but it spend a large sum on outdoor promotions, hoardings, posters, paid media and newspaper jackets. Hence the winner was not Mumbai but Delhi.
The success of recent films like BADLAPUR`, DUM LAGA KE HAISHA` and NH 10` that adaopted clever marketing without spending large amount were also discussed in the meeting.
The other important matter discussed in this crucial meeting was to end the long prevailing star system in Bollywood. The system has been decaying Bollywood since decades.
For a long time, producers have been bearing the burden of costs that have no relevance to the film - for example, the cost of a star`s personal physical trainer and a star`s manager. At the meeting, it was unanimously decided that stars would now have to pay for these costs themselves.
The meeting was attended by leading film producers like Mukesh Bhatt, Sajid Nadiadwala, Ekta Kapoor, Ritesh Sidhwani, Farhan Akhtar, Anurag Kashyap, Phantom Films, Ashish Patil (Yashraj Films), Siddharth Roy Kapur (UTV/Disney), Vijay Singh (Fox Star), Ajit Andhare (Viacom 18), Sunil Lulla (Eros) and a few others were present. Bhushan Kumar of T-Series has also expressed his solidarity, even though he was personally not present.
The meeting was a huge success and the producers plan to hold this meeting every two months. A limit would be set on television advertising in the next discussion. Additional costs like make-up man, hair dress and spot boys would also be put in place.
After the meeting Karan Johar tweeted - "Budget control and the death of delusion is the new mantra in the business of film today..."
