It is going to be a very big weekend indeed for Shahid Kapoor. The man really needs some luck going for him, and how. Of course choice of his films notwithstanding, the fact remains that as one of the most talented young actors around, it has been ages since he delivered a true-blue hit. 'R... Rajkumar' couldn't have arrived at the right time because this is one film that could well decide the course his career would take from this point on. Not that he has a dearth of offers but in an industry where a hit counts the most, this Prabhudheva directed film is the one that comes with a golden opportunity for Shahid.
On their part, producers Sunil Lulla of Eros (whose 'Ram Leela' has already entered the 100 crore club) and Viki Rajani have done to promote and market the film to the fullest. The story of 'pyaar pyaar pyaar' and 'maar maar maar' has been in news for all the right reasons for around three months now and there hasn't been any negative buzz so far. Yes, 'masala' films of late have not really caught the fancy of the audience. However, considering the fact that Prabhudheva has proved his mettle time and again when it comes to this genre, there are good hopes that 'R... Rajkumar' would bring a good 'masaledaar' ending to 2013.
All of this means that considering the huge release that the film is getting, even a 50% start at an average on the opening day would help 'R... Rajkumar' boast of some good numbers. Anything in the vicinity of 10 crores on the opening day would give a good enough boost to the film for making merry over the weekend. By all means, the film should see the highest opening weekend that a Shahid starrer has seen. As for Sonakshi, she could well do with a hit marking an end to the year. With two chartbusters songs (Gandi Baat, Saree Ke Fall Sa) to boast of, 'R... Rajkumar' should find an immediate acceptance in single screens.
