Airports Authority of India (AAI) authorities at Goa Airport have shut down the Airport soon after a jet belonging to the Indian Navy crash-landed at the Airport this morning.

The MiG-29 fighter jet reportedly overshot the runway at the Airport and crashed.  The lone trainee pilot inside the aircraft, however, managed to press the eject button and come out safely.

The aircraft went up in flames immediately after hitting the end of the runway.  Defence Ministry sources, wanting to be unnamed, said that the mishap was a result of the ‘skidding’ of the jet manned alone by a rookie pilot.

Belonging to Navy fleet INS Vikramaditya, the jet is the first of its kind of the Indian Navy to have met with such a mishap.
