It's known that the Andhra Pradesh government is moving to rename Dr NTR University of Health Sciences as Dr YSR University. The move has created a political storm already.
A while ago, moments after Jr NTR put out a statement saying that the renaming doesn't dwarf the stature of NTR, Nandamuri Kalyanram waded into the issue. He noted that the University of Health Sciences was established as a public university in Vijayawada in 1986. The 'Bimbsara' actor spoke of the legacy of the Universty, which was inaugurated by NTR, the then-Chief Minister of the then-united AP.
Kalyanram observed that the University has produced hundreds of experts, specialists and doctors, and contributed to the development of the country over the decades.
"It's saddening that such a University's name is being changed. The University has maintained its standards regardless of whichever party has been in power. It's wrong on the part of people to rake up the name-change merely for political benefit. The issue has emotive value," Kalyanram said.
