On Friday, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, requesting him to instruct the concerned officials of the Union Health Ministry to supply 60 lakh doses of vaccine to AP. It may be noted that the Telugu State had run out of vaccines on Thursday.
The news is that, on Saturday morning, the State received five lakh doses of coronavirus vaccine. A plane arrived with the stock at the Gannavaram airport in Vijayawada from Pune.
The remaining 55 lakh doses are expected to be shipped to the State in tranches.
In many towns in the State, those who had received the first dose are waiting for the second dose. At private hospitals, too, where the vaccines are available for payment of money, there is a severe shortage.
In another news, the manufacture of Covaxin doses will be gradually ramped up in a big way by Bharat Biotech in the coming months. By September, as many as 10 crore doses per month will be produced.
