Bollywood icon Kangana Ranaut, who is also the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Lok Sabha candidate from Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, has made a comparison between Amitabh Bachchan's and her influence in the film business. Speaking at a Mandi rally, she claimed to be getting the same kind of respect and love from people all over the country as Bachchan was receiving.
She was chastised on social media, though, for what some saw to be an overblown sense of self-importance. Critics flocked in, pointing to her recent run of bad films and doubting her worth in light of Bachchan.
Ranaut, who underlines that her decision to enter politics was not motivated by the success of her movie at the box office, is unwavering in the face of criticism. Her own films "Queen" and "Manikarnika" as well as industry standards like Shah Rukh Khan's "Zero" were used to highlight how success in Bollywood varies.
Looking ahead, Ranaut said she was excited about her next film "Emergency," which she thought would be a big hit. In considering how the entertainment business is changing, she emphasized the many opportunities that performers have, especially with OTT platforms, and positioned herself and Shah Rukh Khan as the "final generation of stars."
Kangana's last hit film came in 2015 and after that she gave back to back 15 flops.
