Unconventional Move: Aeromexico Traveler Walks on Wing Amidst Delay Frustration

An Aeromexico passenger created a stir when he opened the emergency exit and stepped onto the wing while the plane was stationary at Mexico International Airport in Mexico City on Thursday. Surprisingly, rather than facing criticism, the man found support from his fellow passengers who defended his actions.
The incident occurred as the flight was awaiting takeoff, and the man re-entered the cabin without causing harm to the aircraft or fellow travelers. Following international security regulations, the individual voluntarily surrendered to the authorities, as confirmed by the airport's statement.
In an unexpected turn, 77 passengers expressed solidarity with the man's actions in a handwritten statement, shared online. They claimed that the airline subjected them to a four-hour delay without proper ventilation or water. According to the passengers, the individual who opened the emergency exit did so to "protect everyone, with the support of everyone," emphasizing that the delay and lack of air jeopardized their health.
Flight-tracking data revealed that the scheduled departure time for flight AM762 was 8:45 a.m., but it didn't leave the airport until 2:18 p.m. The delay was reportedly due to a maintenance alert, causing the captain to return to the gate.
This incident echoes previous cases where passengers took unconventional actions. In July, an AirFrance passenger attempted to open an emergency exit midair, claiming to ensure its proper function, leading to his arrest. Similarly, in November 2023, a Southwest Airlines passenger jumped out of an emergency exit, triggering panic among fellow travelers, and attempted to steal a truck in Louisiana.
