Goa's Director General of Police Muktesh Chander on Wednesday made an appeal to all fans of Mohammed Rafi to boycott Karan Johar's 'Ae Dil Hai Mushkil' (ADHM) for insulting the late legendary singer in the film.

Chander, who is also a flutist, on Tuesday tweeted: "Md. Rafi was one of the greatest singers of India and needs no certificate from anyone. If you are a Rafi fan, boycott this movie."

Rafi's son Shahid, has already criticised the film's director Karan for including a dialogue in the film that he found insulting to his star father.

In the movie, actress Anushka Sharma says: "Mohammed Rafi gaate nahi, rote the (Mohammed Rafi used to cry, not sing).

Chander also posted: "I am musically connected to Rafi Saheb and play his songs on flute. Any utterance against a great singer hurts his millions of fans like me."

The late singer had worked with producer Yash Johar, Karan Johar's father, in the 1980 film 'Dostana' for which he sang "Mere dost qissa yeh kya ho gaya" and "Salamat rahe dostana".

Meanwhile, ADHM - which also features Ranbir Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Fawad Khan - is doing well at the box-office.
