The Election Commission of India will settle the dispute on the 'Two leaves' symbol and also give its decision on the appointment of Sasikala as the interim General Secretary.
The OPS faction separated from the Sasikala led AIADMK which now has E Palaniswami as its party leader. With the RK Nagar by-elections due on April 12, the contention for the 'Two leaves' symbol has been intense as that of the seat itself. Both parties have filed their views in the EC, and the commission will today decide on who will retain the symbol. It could alternatively freeze the 'Two leaves' symbol for the time being too.
Not only that, the EC will settle the key dispute of Sasikala's appointment as the party's General Secretary. The Commission will base the decision on the party's rules that were amended on Feb 5, 2007. If Sasikala's actions as Gen. Secy aren't termed credible, then its up to the poll body to decide what needs to be done.
