A couple days ago, weightlifter Mirabai Chanu made the nation proud by bagging a silver medal at the ongoing Tokyo Olympic Games. Considering Bollywood's love for biopics and cashing on the struggles of real life heroes, it is just a matter of time till someone decides to make a biopic on her. Seasoned actor Adil Hussain sees this as an opportunity to fix a grave mistake committed by Bollywood. In the biopic about boxer 'Mary Kom', actress Priyanka Chopra played the lead instead of someone from the same ethnic origin as Mary Kom.
Adil believes that Mirabai's biopic must be produced with a Northeastern actress in the lead role. He said, "I’d have definitely preferred someone from Northeast. This isn’t at all a judgement on Priyanka, she’s a very accomplished artiste. First of all, Bollywood isn’t a family or mafia, it’s a stupid name actually given by some unimaginative people, it’s not original. I’m saying that the Hindi film industry lost an opportunity."
He added, "If someone makes a movie on Mirabai Chanu, I’m sure they’d be more imaginative and cast someone from the Northeast. I hope they do it and make the right choice, They should make the film so well so they don’t have to invest in a star, like Ang Lee did in Life of Pi (2012), it earned a billion dollars.”
He further talked about how people of North East have an indomitable spirit but yet they are neglected by the rest of the country.
