Two non-star Tamil films rule Chennai Box office in R'Day weekend

Producer C.V.Kumar took a bold decision last week to release 'Adhey Kangal' on January 26, 2017 for the four day Republic Day weekend immediately after actor Suriya's biggie 'Si3' was postponed. This decision backed by his confidence on the content of his production sans star value seem to have worked out week.
'Adhey Kanga' directed by debutant Rohin Venkateshan opened on Jan 26 to positive reviews and the film's prospects has been leveraged by the unanimous positive word of mouth over the weekend.
With this the 'Romantic thriller' film starring Kalaiyarasan, Sshivada and Janani in lead roles has taken a Good Opening in its first weekend at the Chennai Box Office. With 96 shows across eleven theaters and 85% occupancy the film has collected Rs.25,32,040 in the four day weekend between Jan 26 to 29. The major share comes from the collections on Saturday and Sundar is Rs.18,16,060, which is a testimony to the film's prospects being boosted by positive word of mouth.
Another medium budget film 'Dhuruvangal Pathinaaru' directed by Karthick Naren with predominantly newcomers continued its magical run in Chennai in its Fifth weekend after release.
The film has garnered 70% theater occupancy in the weekend. With 52 shows across eight theaters the Rahman starrer has collected Rs.5,09,610 in the three days between Jan 27 to Jan 29. The overall collections made by the film comes close to Rs.1 crore and 45 lakhs (Rs.1,44,15,960/-)
