The year's most discussed Mollywood movie from the art house circuit 'Adaminte Makan Abu' will be the official Indian entry to the year's Oscar Awards, for the best foreign language film. Beating 15 other movies in consideration including 'No one Killed Jessica', 'Aadukalam', 'Dhobi Ghat', 'KO', 'Enthiran', 'Guzaarish', 'Chillar Party','I am Kalam' , 'Deiva Thirumagan',and 'Moner Manush', "Adaminte Makan Abu" outdid the others for its simple story which describes human values. The movie directed by Salim Ahamed had won four National Awards this years including the one for its lead actor Salim Kumar, Music director Issac Thomas Kottukapalli and Cinematographer Madhu Ampat.
'Aadaminte Makan Abu' deals with a plot about the struggle of a poor perfume seller to collect money for the holy Haj, even while correlating the links between humans, their environment and religion. This is the second time a Malayalam film is selected as the official entry to the Oscars, the first one being Rajeev Anchal's 'Guru'. Though India has been sending one film every year for the awards, none of them has been able to fetch one to make the country, which creates the largest number of films in the world, proud.
FFI vice-president Ravi Kottarakkara, meanwhile appealed for "physical and financial" help to the film makers, from the central government as it involved a lot of input cost. It is estimated that the costs relating to the press shows, screenings and related activities will come up to at least Rs 3-4 crores. And it will be of interest to see how a movie made in a budget of less that 1 crore will manage to raise the fund for the Oscar betting.
