Veteran actress Shantamma passed away on Sunday at a private hospital in Mysore where she was admitted for age-related illness. It is said that the 95 year old who was a Bengaluru resident stayed with her daughter Suma in Mysore for the past few months due to illness and yesterday morning collapsed. The daughter had taken her to many hospitals from 4pm to 1 am but most refused to admit due to the coronavirus situation and after finally one hospital agreed to admit but it turned out to be too late.
Shanthamma who started her career in 1956 has acted in over 400 films predominantly in Kannada and in all South Indian languages and was very close to the late Kannada Superstar Rajkumar and his family. She has also acted with Superstar Rajinikanth in Kannada as well as in Tamil films. The veteran actress is survived by four sons and two daughters while her husband a famous dance master passed away a few years ago.
