After the Me Too movement gained prominence in India a year and a half ago many male celebrities who had used their power and clout to exploit women in the entertainment industry have been exposed. The other side of the coin is some women use this as a weapon to extort money.
It has been reported in the press that in 2018 a 23 year old actress had made a false accusation of sexual harassment on Marathi actor Subhash Yadav who was her costar in a film. When he tried to reason with her the conversation was filmed by another actress who had leaked it on social media. Now it is alleged that the two actresses along with two police officials had plotted a scheme to blackmail Yadav with the video and extort cash of rupees 15 lakhs. The actor had reportedly already paid one lakh fearing for his family reputation but then decided to lodge a complaint. The police have arrested the two actresses reportedly named Rohini Mane and Sara Shrawan and the cops who assisted them have been suspended.
