In the police investigation, it has been revealed that the gang used a marriage proposal to cheat and blackmail the actress. According to reports the persons approached Poorna's family in March this year and showed the photograph of a famous Tik Tok star from Kasargod as the potential groom and became friendly with the family.

On June 3rd the men Rafeeq Mohammed, 30, Ambalathu House, Vadanappally; Ramesh Krishnan, 35, Korattikkara, Kunnamkulam; Sarath Sivadasan, 25, Kaippamangalam; and Asharaf Saidu Mohammed, 52, Kundaliyoor visited Poorna's house and stated that they wanted to take the proposal forward. But the actress's parents grew suspicious when the persons started taking photos and videos of the house and the family and asked them to leave.

It is after that the men started blackmailing asking the actress for one lakh rupees and failing which they would publish the videos and damage her reputation. In the investigation it also came to light that the Tik Tok star whose photo was shown is not involved and the gang used it as a fake ID to get the attention of Poorna.

The gang members have been booked under IPC section 387 (putting person in fear of death or of grievous hurt to commit extortion). The lookout is on for the person who impersonated the Tik Tok star on the phone and had conversations with Poorna.
