Popular Television actress Nilani's alleged lover attempted suicide by setting himself on fire in K.K. Nagar and he was rushed to the Kilpauk hospital with severe burn injuries where he is said to be in a serious condition.  It has been reported that Nilani is a divorcee and Gandhi Lalithkumar hailing from Tiruvannamalai became her friend and used to see her often.  As days went by he had proposed marriage to the actress who has refused.

On Saturday NIlani was shooting at a location near Mundakanniamman temple in Mylapore when Gandhi Lalithkumar called her on the cellphone and threatened to commit suicide at the shooting spot if she once again refused marriage.  Nilani then lodged a complaint at the Mylapore police station where the cops urged them to compromise and solve the issue amicably.

However on Sunday, Gandhi Lalithkumar was riding on a two wheeler in the K.K. Nagar area in Chennai when he suddenly stopped on the road and poured petrol on himself and set fire.  Onlookers called 108 and an ambulance rushed him to Kilpauk Hospital.  The K.K. Nagar police have registered a case and are interrogating.

It is worth recalling that Nilani was in the news a few months back when she criticized the police for the Tuticorin shooting in which thirteen civilians died.  She had worn a police dress for a serial at that time and several cases were registered against her.
