When former chief minister Jayalalitha was alive Namitha joined the ADMK party in her presence and campaigned in the 2016 general elections. On Saturday in a sudden move Namitha quit the ruling party and joined the central power hub BJP in the presence of the National Working President JP Nadda who was in Tamil Nadu to inaugurate his party offices in 16 districts of the state. On the same day veteran actor, Radha Ravi too joined the party after his fallout with the DMK due to his misogynist remarks about actress Nayanthara during a film promotional event.

Namitha after several successful films in Telugu made her Tamil debut opposite Vijayakanth in 'Engal Anna' in the year 2004 and immediately shot to fame and costarred opposite top heroes of the time Vijay, Ajith, Sarathkumar, Sathyaraj and Parthiban. After a long hiatus, the crowd favorite actress came back in the limelight by becoming a contestant in the 'Bigg Boss' show hosted by Kamal Haasan.
