She acted in many Tamil films including ' Oorkavalan ' starring superstar Rajinikanth, 'Cheran Pandian' starring Sarathkumar, and 'En Thangachi Padichava' starring Prabhu. She also acted in many Malayalam and Telugu films and proved to be one of the talented actors during her time.

She was nicknamed "Nallennai Chithra" because of the fame she attained with the advertisement of an oil company she had acted in. She was married to Vijayaraghavan in the year 1990. She later quit the film industry to concentrate on her personal life. The couple also has a daughter named Mahalakshmi born in 1992.
