It is reported that a fire accident in the house of a veteran Tamil actress while lighting a lamp resulted in the destruction of many valuables in her house. The incident occurred in the R.A. Puram area in Chennai.
Actress Kanaka is the daughter of the late legendary actress Devika who made her debut in Ramarajan's 'Karakattakaran' directed by Gangai Amaran. The record breaking success of the film catupulted her career and she acted with several top heroes of the eighties including Rajinikanth in 'Adishaya Piravi', Vijayakanth in 'Kovil Kaalai', Prabhu in 'Thalaatu Kekkuthamma', Karthik in 'Katta Panchayathu'. She last appeared in a supporting role in Suriya- Jyothika's 'Sillunu Oru Kadhal' released in 2006.
It is reported that Kanaka is living alone with servants in her house in RA Puram, Chennai. Neighbours noticed heavy smoke rising from her house and alerted the fire department. Fire engines rushed to the spot and after extinguishing it found that no humans were injured. In the inquiry it came to be known that while lighting a lamp the a cloth caught fire and since no one noticed it spread to other parts of the house and expensive items including Kanaka's clothes and jewelry were burnt to ashes.
Kanaka, has not been any acting chances for the past fifteen years or so. In a recent video released by her, she stated that she is ready to act even if she is given a character of her age, she has said that she is interested in learning the current technology of the film industry. She also confidently said that even though she is over fifty she is ready to experiment with the current generation outfits and behaviours.
