Kalyani Rohit is a household name for close to two decades ever since she made her debut as a child actor in 'Alli Thantha Vaanam' in which she had a meaty role opposite Prabhu Deva. She later had another memorable character in Jayam Ravi's debut movie 'Jayam' directed by Mohan Raja and has also done several television serials as anchor and as a leading lady.
We caught up with Kalyani who is happily married and settled in Bengaluru for a lockdown chat in which she revealed the shocking incident that forced her to avoid the industry. According to the talented actress the programming head of a popular tv channel called her and invited her to a pub in the night to discuss a show. Feeling uncomfortable she suggested that they meet at a coffee shop but the person who is still working for the same channel could not give her a convincing reply and hung up. But the person made sure that Kalyani did not get any work from the channel after that even though the show she anchored became a huge hit.
Kalyani cited a similar issue in the movie industry also where directors used to call her offering lead roles in films and would then ask for "Adjustments" which mean sexual favors and that is why she quit films too. Though the Me Too movement has created awareness regarding the exploitation of women it is sad that talented women are still being exploited and lose work due to the personal perversions of a few men in power.
