Actress Gautami made her Tamil debut in 1988 as Rajinikanth's pair in 'Guru Sishyan' and hit instant stardom. The following year, she paired up with Kamal Haasan for the first time in 'Apoorva Sagodharargal' and played the female lead with all the top heroes of the time including Karthik, Prabhu, Vijayakanth and Sathyaraj.

Gautami fell in love with Sandeep Bhatia in 1998 and later married the businessman. However, they separated within a year in 1999 due to a irreconcillable issues.
The couple has a daughter, Subbulakshmi, born in 1999. Gautami meanwhile had a romantic relationship with Kamal Haasan since 2004 after he helped her through her battle with cancer.

Kamal and Gautami separated in 2016 and while the former did not open up about the reasons the latter said that she took the decision keeping the future of her daughter in mind. Now Subbalakshmi is all grown up and her proud mom has shared an adorable photo with her in which the offspring looks taller and radiates with beauty bowling fans over.

Gautami wrote with a lot of emotion on Instagram "Our journey of life is woven from many moments like these. And then suddenly your baby is grown up and stands shoulder to shoulder with you...A parent can have no greater joy....I am so proud of you my baby, for the wonderful person you have evolved into".
