The Chennai Pondy Bazaar police has registered cases against veteran actress Banupriya under sections 323, 506 and 341 under the Prevention of Child Labour Act and sources say that she could be arrested considering the severity of the laws. This is in connection with Banupriya employing a 14-year-old minor girl as in housemaid and on a complaint by her mother that she was tortured and also subject to sexual harassment by the actress's brother.
The complaint was given by the girl's mother Prabhavathy at the Samarlakottai police station in Andhra Pradesh in February and since Banupriya was residing in Chennai the police had to send a team to interrogate. However, Banupriya had given a counter-complaint that the girl and her mother had stolen jewels, money and valuables and the Chennai police recovered the same from them and both were arrested.
Currently though the accused minor girl and her mother are in juvenile prison and Puzhal prison respectively the Child Protection department has urged the cops to take action against Banupriya and her brother. In this regards the Andhra Police sent the case file to the Pondy Bazaar station and the cops have registered the cases and are likely to bring in Banupriya for questioning any time now and also may arrest her.
