Actress Amala Paul today surrendered before the Crime Branch in Tiruvanathapuram regarding tax evasion allegations filed against her under the sections 420, 468 and 471 of the Indian Penal Code. Last year Amala had bought a luxury car worth over 1Crore rupees and had registered it in Puducherry allegedly using forged documents of a fake address. This has apparenlty cost the Kerala government a loss of 20 lakhs rupees which they levy as tax while Pondy's tax is just a fraction of that.
The tax evasion offense is a non bailable one and though Amala Paul approached the Kerala High Court for anticipatory bail the judge ordered her to appear in person to the CB and then the court would conduct a hearing. The interrogation is going on and when Amala arrived at the premises she refused to answer newsmen gathered there.
