Going on a hunger strike or office strike is common but the popular actress Alyssa Milano has urged women to go on a sex strike to protest against abortion bans. The 'Insatiable' star has taken to twitter and posted "Our reproductive rights are being erased. Until women have legal control over our own bodies we just cannot risk pregnancy. JOIN ME by not having sex until we get bodily autonomy back. I’m calling for a Sex Strike. Pass it on."
Alyssa Milano has reacted to the new law in the US which bans abortions once a fetal heartbeat is detected, which can be as early as six weeks before many women know they are pregnant. Several celebrities and women have come out in support of the movement.
Alyssa Milano has cited examples like in the 1600s Iroquois women refused to have sex until men stopped unregulated warfare. A recent event is the women of Liberia going on a sex strike to put an end to the long civil war.
