Aishwarya Rajesh is today one of the few actresses in Tamil cinema capable of taking up immensely challenging roles and doing full justice to them. If she was a meek rural wife in 'Dharmadurai' she transformed into the expletive throwing slum girl in 'Vada Chennai', a mother of two in 'Kaaka Muttai' or the professional cricketer in 'Kanaa'.
Aishu was one of the distinguished guest speakers on the Ted Talks show held in the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Trichy on January 11th, 2020. The theme was 'Colors Beyond the Lines' and the acclaimed actress shared that in her journey to becoming a top star first she experienced not one but two terrible tragedies in her personal life. Her elder brother committed suicide when she was 8 years old and her other brother who just got a high paying job passed away in a road accident when she was 10.
Growing up in a modest housing board in a lower middle class family Aishu then stated that she started earning when she was in the 11th standard promoting products in front of grocery stores. She then broke into the television industry but the low payment could not sustain her family.
Aishwarya then tried her luck in the film industry where she faced among other things body shaming and sexual harassment but she states with confidence that she knew how to handle it and give it back to them. Ironically some refused to give her a chance in Tamil cinema circling her color and also that she speaks Tamil. According to the intense actress even though she got critical acclaim in 'Kaaka Muttai' she did not get any ' opportunities to act with big stars which only changed after 'Dharmadurai' and 'Vada Chennai'.
Aishwarya names 'Kanaa' produced by Sivakarthikeyan and directed by Arunraja Kamaraj as the film that changed her life and after working hard and convincingly playing a cricketer she now has seven films lined up in which she is the hero or central character. Truly inspiring words from the hardworking Aishu who took the steps to stardom and shows every proof that she is here to stay.
