Siruthai actor Vinayakan apologises for his controversial remark on 'Mee Too Movement'

Popular actor Vinayakan is well known for playing villainous roles in Tamil in 'Thimiru', 'Siruthai', 'Mariyaan' landed in a controversy after making sexist remarks during the Oruthee press conference. He stated that he has no idea what Me Too Movement means and that asking women for sex is Me Too, he will continue doing so.
As soon as his controversial remark surfaced online, it took the internet by storm leaving many enraged. Several people on social media criticised Vinayakan for his insensitive statements. Activists and political personalities have called out his comments.
Actor Parvathy Thiruvothu termed his remarks as a “shame” in her Instagram story. Actors Harish Peradi, Kunjila Mascillamani, Sharadakutty and Shanimol Usman too have voiced their opinions against Vinayakan's statements.
Addressing the same the Mariyaan actor has now 'sincerely' apologized for the 'language' that he used during the promotional event. Vinayakan asserted that his intention wasn't to hurt anyone on a personal level.
Vinayakan wrote in Malayalam, which loosely translates, “Hi everyone. During the ‘Oruthee’ promotional event I used a certain language that one of the journalists (sister) found derogatory. It was not at all targeted on a personal level and I sincerely apologize for the comments made by me on that day that would have caused her inconvenience. Vinayakan.”
It is to be noted that, this isn't the first time when Vinayakan has embroiled himself in a controversy. Back in 2019, the 'Oruthee' star was arrested for allegedly verbally abusing a woman activist over a phone call. Since it was a bailable offence, he was granted bail.
