A few days back, film producer Gopi filed a complaint against actor Vemal in Chennai Police alleging that he had defrauded him of Rs 5 crores. Following this, producer Singaravelan filed a complaint at the Chennai commissioner's office today for defrauding Rs 1.5 crores and making false allegations about him.
Now, actor Vemal breaks silence on the issue and reveals to the media the trauma he went through. Singaravelan in his complaint mentioned that he arranged a loan of Rs 5 crores through his friend Gopi for Vemal to resume the works of the half-abandoned film 'Mannar Vagaiyara' and also added that he invested Rs 1.5 crore in 'Kalavani 2'.
Vemal, in a recent press meet today, said, "I didn't receive any salary for 'Mannar Vagaiyara' movie. I hadn't made any deal with Singaravelan to share the profits too. My name will be listed as the producer. That's the only thing I did in the movie apart from playing the lead. I already acted in half of the film before the project was abandoned by the new producer Tiruppur Ganesan as he was bankrupt."
"When we wanted to take loans for the finance of the film, no one was ready to provide a loan in his name but the financiers were interested to loan money in my name. So, I accepted to be the producer of the project for namesake. I don't know the problems residing in it. Singaravelan told me that it would be good for business if the movie is in my name and handled all the business of 'Mannar Vagaiyara'," added Vemal.
Vemal further continued, "He is the one who got money from Gopi, he managed the business of the film and he didn't let me do any business-related work in the movie. Singaravelan also said in the audio launch function that the movie has done good business and it is in the profit zone. He said all that and after the release of the film, he said that 'Mannar Vagaiyara' is a loss venture of Rs 5 crores and I should return the money as I'm the producer."
Vemal also said, "Singaravelam took care of all the business until the release but he diverted all the expenses to me once the film was released. I have been mentally depressed since then. I have spent Rs 55 lakhs in the last 3 years. Another thing is that Singaravelan has got money from people for narrating a story to me without my knowledge. He had received Rs 5 lakhs from a filmmaker named Ramesh from Bangalore for narrating a story to me. Singaravelan was managing all my accounts and he received that money through my bank account. When I rejected the story, I was asked to repay the money. I inquired about it with him but he compelled me to act in the film that I didn't want to do. I was frightened and I repaid the money by getting an advance from another project. This happened 2 years ago."
