Actor Pratap Pothen found dead at his flat

Veteran actor-filmmaker Pratap Pothen is no more. Reportedly, the actor was found dead at his flat in Chennai on Friday morning. He was 70 years old.

Born on August 13, 1952, Prathap has acted in about 100 films and directed over 12 films. Primarily known for his work in Malayalam cinema, the veteran has also worked in Tamil and Telugu films. Pratap debuted in director Bharatan's 1978 Malayalam movie Aaravam. Some of his popular Malayalam movies include Thakaram, Aarohanam, Panneer Pushpangal, Thanmathra, Uyare, Idukki Gold, 22 Female Kottayam, Bangalore Days. He had directed three films in Malayalam including Rithubhedam, Daisy and Oru Yathramozhi. He won a National Award for directing the 1985 Tamil film Meendum Oru Kaathal Kathai. In Malayalam, the veteran was last seen in the Mammooty starrer CBI5 The Brain which released earlier this year. He was filming for Mohanlal’s directorial Barroz: Nidhi Kaakkum Bhootham.

Pratap was married to actress Raadhika for a year. He later remarried Amala Sathyanath but the couple separated in 2012. They have a daughter Keya.
