Pierce Brosnan faced charges for straying off the designated trail in Yellowstone National Park's Mammoth Terraces region during November.
Documents obtained by CNN disclosed that the "007" actor was charged with foot travel in restricted thermal areas and violating closures within Yellowstone Canyon, listed as petty offenses.
The 70-year-old "Mamma Mia" star was accused of breaching travel restrictions near a thermal feature, as per the files filed in the US District Court in Wyoming.
Yellowstone's thermal zones contain fragile, breakable crusts above scalding water, as highlighted on the park's website. Visitors are required to use designated boardwalks and trails around these areas and avoid direct contact with hot spring water, which can cause severe burns.
Several accidents have occurred in these zones recently, including a drunk man from Michigan banned from the park after falling into a restricted hot spring in August. Another visitor ignorantly dipped her hand into scorching water, captured on video in June.
Brosnan was reportedly filming segments for the movie "Unholy Trinity," co-starring Samuel L. Jackson, in the area.
The actor is scheduled to appear in federal court in Mammoth Hot Springs, Wyoming, on January 23. This incident appears to be Brosnan's first encounter with the law.
In a recent incident, an attempt to criticize Brosnan's wife Keely Shaye Smith's appearance in a viral tweet backfired when fans rallied in support of the journalist and author's appearance.
